The symbolic digital library of Giordano Bruno

The work and the sources

The scope of the project is extremely vast, and it is the product of meticulous bibliographical and philological research assigned to scholars competent in the various areas. Despite the achievement of this ambitious result, the site is not presented as a finished work but is, on the contrary, conceived as an ongoing project that will expand in parallel with the progress of research on the philosopher from Nola. In view of this open-ended concept, the site is designed as an updated research resource which scholars of Giordano Bruno can draw upon constantly. We ought to clarify here that the reconstruction of Bruno's symbolic library does not focus solely on the location of explicit citations, but is also based on identification of sources that are not specified. In addition to this aspect, which is particularly precious for the intelligibility of Renaissance works, the project also comprises an index of names as a method of more specific approach to the text.
