BIVIO

Virtual library online

The library presents the texts organised both by author and title in the 'Authors' section, and broken down into thematic areas in the 'Suggested Reading' section. These research areas, in which similar and related documents are brought together for the purpose of thematic research, not only contribute to conveying the sense of the profound links between one discipline and another, but at the same time also highlight the variety of interests within the work of a single writer, once again underscoring the multiplicity of voices and stimuli comprised within Humanist-Renaissance culture. Each text is also provided with an index for easy consultation and contains the same illustrations as the paper edition. Where the relationship between text and illustration is inadequate in the paper edition, the figures are positioned so as to optimise their descriptive function in relation to the text. The same criterion is used for the transcription of marginalia such as author's notes and glosses, while taking care not to interfere with the structure of the page. Faithfulness to the original is subordinated to ease of consultation; this is why the typeface styles of the source have been ignored in the transcription, and in general all the aspects that are not strictly bound up with the intelligibility of the text. BiViO also provides a list of the quotations contained in each work, thus allowing all the writers present access to the virtual library.
